Legendary New Orleans Musician Dave Bartholomew Dies at 100

Dave Bartholomew, a legendary New Orleans musician, died this weekend at the age of 100.

The talented trumpeter and composer is credited with bringing the genre of rock 'n' roll to prominence, especially with his work producing the music of Fats Domino, with whom he also co-wrote many songs.

NOLA.com shared that the centenarian musician passed away this Sunday, June 23rd at the East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana. Some of Bartholemew's greatest hits include 1955 Billboard No.1 hit "Ain't That a Shame" recorded by Fats Domino and written by the two; "Witchcraft" with Pearl King for The Spiders, also in 1955, and "Bo Weevil" in 1956, co-written with Fats Domino and recorded by Domino. In addition to his successful musical career, Bartholemew served in the army during World War II.

“He genuinely loved music, and he genuinely loved being part of the birth of rock ‘n’ roll as an expression of New Orleans music,” said Gwen Thompkins, host of WWNO’s “Music Inside Out," per NOLA.com. “He loved not just having hits, but he loved music, and he loved to get the music right,” Thompkins told the outlet.

Dave Bartholomew passed away this morning. He was 100. Bartholomew was the producer and co-writer of many hits of Fats Domino.
