The legendary fashion house's newest collaboration with contemporary artist Urs Fischer is making waves.
Louis Vuitton’s highly anticipated collaboration with Urs Fischer has finally launched both online and in stores. Fischer, a Swiss contemporary artist, brought his unique vision to the brand through an exuberant and playful rework of the Louis Vuitton monogram, sculptural in-store installations, and whimsical characters.
Fischer is one of only a handful of artists who have reworked the iconic monogram since it was created by Georges Vuitton in 1896. Fischer refashioned the monogram into hand-drawn versions that he calls “memory sketches.” These sketches create an airy, dream-like effect, almost as if the monogram is floating past the viewer’s eyes. Available in black and red and black and white, the new monogram is the focal point of the collection. Each monogram is adjusted to fit the clothing to give the customer the best print, color vibrancy, and fit. The print even follows the contours of the body on the ready-to-wear clothes, creating a beautiful, natural effect.
As if the special edition monogram wasn't enough, there are also seven special-edition bags being released with the collaboration. Some feature the Urs Fischer monogram in a tuffetage treatment, a process that uses velvet-like material to create extra texture and tactility. The special edition bags include the Keepall, Cabas, Onthego, and Neverfulls.
Additionally, Fischer created a series of whimsical characters, like a cat asleep in a banana skin, an avocado meeting an egg, a cat holding a lightbulb, and a bird carrying a peach, that all come together on a colorful silk square. These characters will also be available to visit in real life, as they will be shown in window displays throughout Louis Vuitton's retail stores. Stores worldwide will become an extension of the collaboration’s experience and will feature high tech sculptural displays and a new color palette that will really bring the collaboration to life.
