- Legendary actor Kirk Douglas has died at 103 years old.
- His son, Michael Douglas, confirmed the news with a heartfelt statement.
The legendary actor known for films like Spartacus and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea passed away on February 5, 2020, just a little over two months after celebrating his birthday. He is survived by his sons, Michael, 75, Peter, 64, and Joel, 73, and his wife Anne Buydens, 100.
“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” Michael said in a statement. “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.”
Michael continued, “But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine [Zeta-Jones], a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchildren their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”
Michael’s final comments concluded on an especially sentimental note. “Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad—I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.”
Our thoughts go out to Michael, Catherine, and their entire family during this difficult time.
