“Legally Blonde 3” Taps Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor as Writers

Legally Blonde stans, get ready because our favorite film franchise will be getting the Mindy Kaling treatment real soon.

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter on May 18, Mindy has been tapped as a writer for the third installment of beloves series Legally Blonde. Mindy will be joined by Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor, who will also join the franchise as a writer. So, basically, hilarity will ensue.

On top of the writers' additions, THR also confirmed that, on top of taking on the role of producer, Reese Witherspoon will officially be reprising her role as silver-tonged Elle Woods.

Following the original Legally Blonde film, which premiered back in 2001, and its 2003 sequel, fans around the world have never stopped loving or referencing Elle Woods (I mean Ariana Grande debuted a whole music video largely based on Reese’s character).

In June 2018, Reese confirmed the upcoming film was in the works with a succinct pool video on social media. “It’s true... #LegallyBlonde3,” she captioned the post, which was shared to both Twitter and Instagram and immediately sent fans into a frenzy. In October, Reese told Entertainment Weekly the threequel was still “a development project” but that seems to have changed now with the confirmation of scriptwriters and producers.

The film might already be past its initial pre-production stage but many details are still being kept under wraps and no set date has yet been announced for a potential release. While we can’t figuratively wait to see what our fave Harvard alumnus has been up to in these 17 years, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we most likely won’t get new info on Legally Blonde 3 for a while.
