What’s happening: Summer camp registration starts Monday, Feb. 26, for summer camps at Lee County Parks & Recreation. These camps expect to draw thousands of youngsters throughout the region to programs, outings and activities at the department’s traditional camps, middle school camps and specialty camps.

Where: There are 10 sites offering camps, including:

  • Boca Grande Community Center (Traditional), 131 First St., Boca Grande

  • Estero Recreation Center (Traditional and Middle School Camp), 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd., Estero

  • Karl Drews Community Center (Special Needs Camp), 18412 Lee Road, Fort Myers

  • Lakes Regional Park (Specialty Camp), 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers

  • Manatee Regional Park (Specialty Camp), 10901 State Road 80, Fort Myers

  • North Fort Myers Recreation Center (Traditional and Middle School Camp), 2000 North Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers

  • Olga Community Center (Traditional Camp), 2325 South Olga Drive, Fort Myers

  • Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve (Specialty Camp), 7751 Penzance Blvd., Fort Myers

  • Veterans Park Recreation Center (Traditional and Middle School Camp), 55 Homestead Road South, Lehigh Acres

  • Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center (Traditional and Middle School Camp), 16760 Bass Road, Fort Myers

When: Registration begins at 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26. Hours for traditional and middle school camp are 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Specialty and special needs camps hours vary; check specific locations for hours. All traditional and middle school camps run for eight weeks from June 10 through August 2. Specialty camps offer various sessions, check location for dates.

Cost: $75 per session per child.

What to expect

Traditional and middle school camps offer a full day of excitement and are the camps you remember when you went to day camp. All camps offer a variety of activities and may include indoors and outdoors activities, games, adventures, swimming, field trips and more. Traditional camps are for children that have completed Kindergarten through fifth grade. Middle school camps are for sixth through eighth grade.

Specialty camps offer a specific unique focus and spend an in-depth week on a particular concentration. They are for those youth who have a true passion for the topic at hand. Special needs camp is designed for participants with special physical and/or developmental delays. Specialty and special needs camps ages vary; check locations for specific ages.

Tips

If you plan to register for camp at one of the large recreation centers, you need to obtain a membership first by visiting the location. This applies to the centers at Estero, North Fort Myers or Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres.

If you currently have a membership at one of these facilities, please make sure it is active by calling or visiting the location selected.

Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center will not require a membership at registration. Memberships will be collected at the start of the summer camp program.

Registration for swimming lessons and other aquatics programs begins Wednesday, March 6.
