Overview

Finding an electric bike that can bridge the gap between commuting and being a reliable off-road vehicle isn't easy. Many bikes are well-suited for reasonably specific needs, whether it be gliding your way to work in the city, a casual Sunday cruise to the park with the whole family, or bashing up a rough road to explore your local backcountry trails. The XPeak seems to be exploring how it can offer all of this and more to its customers.

The XPeak arrives sporting an all-new 750W rear-hub motor that is said to be its quietest motor to date while delivering 85Nm of torque for those difficult climbs and heavier weight. The 48V 14Ah (672Wh) removable lithium-ion battery makes for a complete combination of power and efficiency needed when tackling difficult off-road terrain.

One of the unique aspects of the XPeak is the decision by Lectric to put the XPeak through the rigorous ISO 4210-10 eMTB standard testing process. This testing determines what components and frames can handle the rigours of off-road use. Rarely do companies who are not making e-MTB-specific bikes go through this testing process, however, Lectric CEO Levi Conlow has always made a point to somewhat go against the grain in his company's approach to business.

“At Lectric eBikes, we’ve been successful because we’re determined to go above and beyond what is required for our customers,” said Conlow. “The safety of our riders is paramount and that’s why we’ve chosen to have the Lectric XPeak tested to the highest standards.”

Additionally, Lectric has outfitted the XPeak with an excellent front-end/fork combination that will smooth out many of those unexpected bumps in the road. The RST Renegade fork offers 80mm of travel and adjustability, while Lectric has added a thru-axle for the fork mount, giving the bike some more safety and stiffness in the front end.

Couple all of this with some good components at an affordable price and you have a competitive off-road bike that will save you some dollars on your bottom line. Lectric has always been about affordability without sacrificing quality, so the XPeak fits right into the mould.

Thoughts

The team at Lectric seems to do a great job at entering a specific sector in the e-bike market and putting out a competitive offering. Their Lectric XP 3.0 is the most popular e-bike in America, while their cargo and trike offerings have had great success as well.

It is safe to say that the Xpeak is probably on its way to disrupting the fat-tire, adventure bike market, or at least making some waves. With an affordable price, a nice components package and $450 worth of accessories for free, it is hard not to be enticed by the offer. A great track record of quality electric bikes at a reasonable price point is tough to argue with.

Without having had the chance to test out the bike first-hand, I wouldn't expect to take the XPeak into the deepest depths of the backcountry as a hunting-specific electric bike, it seems more than capable of getting you far enough away from the crowds to enjoy some solitude or quiet time away from the bustling city landscape.

Whatever you want the XPeak to be, it definitely has the whole package at a very competitive price, allowing you to design the bike to best fit your wants and needs. So take a chance and trust that Lectric is making another quality product that will be exactly what they promote it to be.
