When LeBron James' son Bronny announced he was joining the USC Trojans basketball team earlier this year, many fans were excited by the prospect of watching the NBA MVP play alongside his child one day. In July, however, those dreams seemed to come to a screeching halt when the 18-year-old collapsed during a workout and suffered a cardiac arrest stemming from a congenital heart defect. Bronny's college and eventual professional future appeared to be up in the air, but since then, he's been well on the road to recovery.

His dad shared a promising update on his son's health during the Los Angeles Lakers' media day on Oct. 2. He also revealed that Bronny had to have emergency surgery before being released from the hospital just days after his scare.

"Bronny’s doing extremely well,” James told reporters. "He has began his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates at USC [thanks to] the successful surgery that he had. He’s on the up-and-up."

"It’s definitely a whirlwind and a lot of emotions for our family this summer, but the best thing we have is each other," the four-time champ added. "We stuck behind each other and gave Bronny strength during the whole process. We're happy to see where he is today, and we look forward to seeing what his future still has in store for him."

The father of three went on to declare that he’ll dedicate his 2023–24 season to Bronny.

"I’m going to dedicate this season to Bronny because of the incident that happened this summer," James said. “It just puts everything into perspective. No matter what’s going on in your life at that point of time, the only thing that matters is your family. So to see what he had to go through, what he’s been through over the last few months, it’s been a lot."

"I can only imagine how it's been for him, because it's been a lot for me, it's been a lot for our family," he continued. "But the man above has definitely given us a lot of strength, and has given Bronny the strength to bounce back."

For now, Bronny's recovery process continues, but the plan is for him to play for USC as soon as he's up to it.
