Leap Day Travel Deals Happening Today Only

I'm a spontaneous travel type. My girlfriend will try to plan a trip a year in advance, and you could not pay me to care. But, if I see a last-minute hotel or flight deal, I'm telling her to call in sick—we're taking it. It's annoying for her, but I love it. It's the only way to get a good deal! If you want to stay at the best new hotels in prime destinations like Paris or New York City for anything under market price, you have to be spontaneous. And wouldn't you know it, I've been blessed by the booking gods with a bunch of random Leap Day deals.

For some reason, an extra calendar day made the travel industry lose its mind a little bit. Aggregator websites like booking.com are throwing you an extra 15 to 30 percent off stays. HotelTonight—my favorite last minute staycation website—is offering 10 percent off Leap Day bookings. High-end groups like Independent Collection will be offering portfolio-wide deals. And, massive hospitality conglomerates like Marriott are cooking up some sales that in-the-know industry types like myself don't even know about.

There's not a ton of deals live at the moment, most of the Leap Day hotel deals kick off on February 28 and 29th, but there are a few early deals that I can throw your way. Right now, I'm seeing good deals from booking.com in a few major cities. If you're going to book something, act quick, because a lot of these flash sales only last about 24 hours. Leap Day

Priceline has a few tiers of Leap Day deals. First, and least interesting, is $29 off a booking if you make it on 2/29. The code is LEAPDAY29. That's it.

Second, and much more interesting, are some pre-determined hotel-plus-flight deals. There are some top-tier U.S. destinations like New York, Miami, and Las Vegas in the mix. These bundles start at 29 percent off, so there's the chance for a big discount on your next trip if you book before the end of the day 2/29.

Leap Day Promo

Go get some SoCal sun and the classic resort experience at Marriott's Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa. It's got two outdoor pools, fitness center, full-service spa, and access to some of the best hiking and surfing you'll find.

HotelTonight

The HotelTonight premise is simply: Last minute vacant rooms are a real hole for most hotels. They want them filled, but only highway hotels do well with day-of vacancy. HotelTonight is bridging that gap by offering consumers discounted hotel rooms on quick turnarounds.

For reference, my girlfriend and I have scored day-of stays at big-name New York City hotels several times, and we turn it into a little staycation. But, you can also book a month or two in advance for lesser deals.

And all day February 29, HotelTonight is offering an extra 10 percent off bookings with the code: HTLEAPDAY2024. I'm eyeing a stay at one of the The Standard hotels in NYC this weekend, and with the discount, I'll probably pay about $130 a night. (I swear that's actually a good deal!)

Executive Junior Suite

If you're doing a New York staycation, you may prefer something downtown or farther uptown. But if you want to visit New York, there's no better launch pad than The Manhattan Club on West 56th. The rooms are comfortable, if a bit old fashioned, and you're right in the middle of what you want to see in New York—museums, restaurants, and Central Park.

Be aware, this is through booking.com's Early 2024 Sale, so the last travel day you can book is April 1. If you can score a good flight deal on short notice, this is the perfect spot.

Deluxe King Room

Loft Suite Queen - Large Balcony
