The premiere of HGTV’s Rock the Block set the tone for the new renovating and design competition series: The four hosts fiercely worked on their first project, but it was Restored by the Fords Leanne Ford who stood out from the pack with her stunning master suite. Flip or Flop star Tarek El Moussa was left speechless when he entered the space, instantly noticing Leanne’s signature natural minimalism style.

The Pittsburgh native reimagined the Southern California home's master bedroom, master bathroom, and master closet into a relaxing oasis, and of course, she enlisted the help of her brother-slash-contractor, Steve Ford.

Starting off in the master bedroom, Leanne’s main goal was to add more square footage while keeping it “super simple and clean.” The interior designer kept the concrete floors that came with the house and incorporated texture on the white walls “to make it feel warm.”

Two French-style barn doors transitioned the master bedroom into the master bathroom, revealing a luxurious bathtub and a floor-to-ceiling shower with handmade chevron tile. Leanne expanded the original bathroom size by combining it with the original master closet space, and the results were well worth it.

“I can’t imagine anyone changing the layout as much as I did ‘cause I’m crazy,” she said.

“We used a ton of #texture and #naturalelements to add some #character and warmth to a brand new build,” Leanne wrote on Instagram about the final look. The designer shared that she used an Ikea mirror and simple basket lights “to make this place feel like a million bucks.

When it came to the master closet, Leanne decided to build into the garage and create a new master closet from a section of it. The 38-year-old also made sure to keep a neutral palette of white, black, and brown throughout the master suite.

In the end, the Restored by the Ford star spent $37,500 on her master suite from her total $175,000 renovation budget. Although she knew it wouldn’t appeal to the masses, she was confident that a specific buyer who would fall in love with it, and it was her risky ideas that ultimately earned her the first win of the show.

“My style is my style. It’s always very important for me to design for an emotional reaction,” she said. “The other girls all have really different styles than I do. I’m just going to stay true to Leanne Ford in this one.”
