Surfing videogames are few and far between.

Back in the early 2000s, there was Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer, Transworld Surf, and Sunny Garcia Surfing – games with archaic graphics, unrealistic surfing, and waves that looked nothing like they do in real-life; yet the games were beloved by surfers of the time.

Now, 20 years out from surfing’s videogame glory years at the turn of the century, a new game is dropping that will allow players to ride waves: Grand Theft Auto VI.

Leaked footage of the alleged surfing gameplay can be seen in the clip above; and per a report from gaming website, Gamerficial, the rumors of GTA VI surfing are true:

“Fans of the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series have been eagerly awaiting news about the highly anticipated GTA 6. Exciting rumors are surfacing, suggesting that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have some incredible plans in store for the next installment.

“One particular rumor making waves is the inclusion of a ground-breaking feature: surfing.

“GTA 6 is rumored to feature substantial advancements in water physics, revolutionizing how water behaves and interacts within the game world.

“While water previously served as a mere backdrop in previous GTA titles, this time it is expected to take on a more active role.

“Speculations suggest that players will witness more realistic waves, improved swimming mechanics, and a lifelike interaction between objects and water.

“The most exciting revelation from the leaks is the potential inclusion of surfing, a first for the GTA series.

“If implemented, players would have the thrilling opportunity to take to the waters of the fictionalized Vice City and ride the waves.”

So, amidst robbing drug dealers and drag-racing and all sorts of other illicit behaviors characteristic of the GTA franchise, players will soon be able to surf as well. That is…if the game ever comes out. The release date of GTA VI is unclear as of now.
