Another week, another new Lay's flavor landing in stores. Yes, hot on the heels of the release of Lay's new Sweet and Spicy Honey Chips, the brand is back in the news and on our social media feeds with what may be its wackiest release yet. And while we love the irresistible salty crunch of a plain Lay's chip, it's limited-edition flavors never fail to pique our interest. That's certainly the case with this new drop.

About a month ago, Lay's posted this to its Instagram account with the cryptic caption, "Two icons: Lay's 🤝 IHOP Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity combo. Would you try this fake flavor, or…is it fake?"

We were left wondering what Lay's was going for—after all, it was too early for an April Fool's Day prank, but these chips seemed too weird to be true. Commenters were equally perplexed, writing, "Why do you toy with our emotions like this?!" and, "OMG please let this be real! Don’t play with my feelings!!" However, many, many commenters were down to try these chips, writing "Omg please make this flavor a thing," and confessing, "If this is real...I will try it, and probably like it."

When we reached out to Lay's for confirmation if these were indeed real, we were met with an equally cryptic response, neither confirming nor denying the chips' existence. But now it appears we have all the confirmation we need: the chips arriving in stores.

Lay's Teams Up With IHOP on Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity Chips

The first ever collaboration between Lay's and IHOP is hitting stores now. We saw several posts of people discovering the chips in Walmart—where they are an exclusive product—in the last few weeks. According to the packaging, the potato chips have the flavor of each element of IHOP's famous Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity Breakfast: that means strawberry-topped pancakes, syrup, and bacon.

So what do the sweet-and-salty chips actually taste like? According to one reviewer, they were "strawberry and sweet-forward and were surprisingly good," continuing, "The strawberry flavor was nice and didn’t have that weird artificial taste to it. I didn’t taste any bacon really but these were still good."

Another commenter on Instagram user @markie_devo's post echoed that sentiment, "Just tried 'em today! Was really surprised at how good they were."

Not everyone is a fan, though, with another reviewer saying they taste like "salty strawberries" and giving them a "4/10" rating.

You can decide for yourself, because according to a few social media accounts, the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity Chips are rolling out in Walmart stores across the country this week. Now, we love a little salty with our sweet here at Allrecipes, but strawberry-flavored potato chips? That might be a stretch, even for us. But hey—we've proven time and time again, we'll taste anything (at least) once.
