Law and Order: SVU's Mariska Hargitay Gets Candid About Balancing Work With Her Family

Olivia Benson always speaks the truth on Law and Order: SVU, and Mariska Hargitay does the same in real life.

Mariska’s honesty is a big reason why she’s one of our favorite actresses. Whether she’s opening up about the loss of her mom Jayne Mansfield, or gushing about her hunky husband Peter Hermann, she’s always candid about what happens in her life outside of SVU.

So it should come as no surprise that Mariska recently admitted she sometimes struggles with balancing her family—which includes her and Peter's three kids, August, Amaya, and Andrew—and her illustrious career.

“There’s not enough hours in the day,” she told People. “I’m on a TV show, and I have a foundation and three children and a husband, and they all need, as anything you value does, a lot of focus and energy.”

Her solution to juggling it all is simple. “Time is my most precious commodity now,” she said. “I’ve had to think smart to get more done.”

Part of the way she does that is to find “peace” and reset while surrounded by her loved ones.

“Being at home, this is my happy place,” she said. “The idea of being home changes everything, and I can see it with my kids, too, that idea of ‘Oh, okay, Mama’s home, everything is fine.’”

You heard it here first: A "joyful house" is the key to happiness and success!
