'Law and Order: SVU' Fans Are Flipping Out About Exciting Kelli Giddish Comeback News

If you thought you had seen the last of Rollins on Law and Order: SVU, you thought wrong. Actress Kelli Giddish is readying her return on the NBC drama — but it comes with a few caveats.

On April 11, news broke that the former Law and Order: SVU cast member is coming back to the show after leaving at the end of 2022. According to TVLine, Kelli will reprise her role as the detective in the season 24 finale of SVU later this spring. What’s more, she’ll also be seen in the second-to-last season 3 episode of Law and Order: Organized Crime. But it won’t be a normal "welcome home" for the character. As it turns out, Rollins stops by to share the great news that she’s pregnant with her first child with her husband Carisi (Peter Scanavino).

Though NBC declined to share a comment with TVLine on the appearance, Deadline later confirmed the news too. Upon hearing the exciting announcement, Law and Order: SVU fans started rejoicing and many took to Twitter with their thoughts.

“Wait, WHAT??? Kelli is BACK???” one person wrote. “Thank lord Kelli is returning to #SVU as Rollins. About time. Her return will have me watching that episode!” another added. “Dominick and Amanda Carisi are having a baby! There's gonna be a #Rollisi baby, y'all. I'm excited,” a different follower said.

Despite fans still calling for Kelli’s permanent return to the series, TVLine reports that her new SVU episode will mark her last time as a series regular. As viewers may know, in August 2022, the actress revealed that she was leaving the cast after 12 years and was “grateful” for her experience. Variety later reported that it wasn’t Kelli’s decision but instead “a call made from above” to “keep the show as up-to-date and current as possible.”

Now, does that mean that Kelli will start exploring a guest position on SVU? It’s definitely a possibility, especially given what she told Entertainment Weekly. "[Rollins is] still in New York," she told the outlet. "I think the door's open, sure. I loved working with everybody that was ever involved with SVU and I know they feel the same about me, so if it works in a storyline or whatever, I don't think the audience would ever hate to see that."
