  • Laura Dern just revealed the cult-favorite serum that’s made a big impact in her clean skincare routine.

  • True Botanicals Chebula Active Serum changed the Big Little Lies star’s skin texture and improved its overall moisture level, she revealed recently.

  • “I just am in love with it,” Dern, 54, said. “There’s also been a difference in terms of my fine lines.”

Laura Dern’s low-key approach to skincare proves less is more: The actress, 54, only uses a handful of products on her face, and she’s perhaps most excited about the newest addition to her skincare routine.

In a new interview with The Cut, Dern revealed that she became “obsessed” with True Botanicals products after learning about them on the set of Big Little Lies—and now, she’s a huge fan of the brand’s Chebula Active Serum. “I started using it a year ago. We were all so stressed, and I was going back to work on what was considered the first movie ‘back’ during the pandemic,” she said. “The times were so scary for all of us, and on top of that, I felt like my skin looked dry and tired, so I started using this.”

Soon, her decision began to pay off: “The texture of [my skin] changed, and it felt really moisturized,” the Blue Velvet actress, an ambassador for the brand, recalled. “There’s also been a difference in terms of my fine lines. I just am in love with it.”

Chebula, a fruit often used in Ayurvedic practices, boasts powerful antioxidant properties: One 2018 study found that it has “significantly higher” antioxidant activity than vitamin C, another popular skincare ingredient (hello, vitamin C serums!), and another from 2012 concluded that the ingredient moisturizes and rejuvenates skin when applied topically.

In other words, this serum is ideal for addressing fine lines and wrinkles, brightening skin tone, and firming and moisturizing your complexion. And don’t just take Dern’s word for it: Other celebrities (like Olivia Wilde) and online reviewers are just as impressed by the serum’s youthful glow.

“My skin feels refreshed and dewy,” one Amazon reviewer explains. “Even after less than a week of use, it feels more hydrated, and the texture is improved.”

“I liked how light and sheer it felt on my skin, with just the right amount of thickness,” another writes. “I was looking for a clean serum to reduce some of my discoloration while smoothing my skin, and this serum definitely delivered.”

“I’ve been using True Botanicals for a couple months now, and their products are game changers,” yet another reviewer raves. “This serum feels amazing. The scent is also very calming. My skin feels renewed and refreshed. Yes, the price point is a bit high, but as someone with rosacea, I feel like I’ve finally found a solid skincare routine.”

Dern’s clean approach appears to be paying off: “I haven’t done anything to my face other than use skincare, and my girlfriends are saying that my skin looks more youthful and healthier than it did 10 years ago,” she continued.

But she isn’t hoping to reverse aging; she’s embracing the process with open arms. “For me, getting older is about managing stress more than it’s about managing looking older,” Dern said. “Aging is scary if we imagine ourselves alone and afraid, but I am determined to not let aging scare me because somebody else is ageist.”
