Las Vegas 3rd grade student wins airport billboard contest with colorful work of art

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A bright and talented third-grader in Las Vegas is getting her first taste of city-wide recognition for a colorful work of art she created.

Evelyn Hernandez is a student at Gene Ward Elementary School and was selected to feature her larger-than-life artwork of Mother Nature on a billboard located at Harry Reid International Airport.

Hernandez’s artwork was chosen for its creative interpretation of the semester’s theme, “Springtime in the Desert,” showcasing a vibrant and imaginative perspective that reflects both artistic skill and a keen appreciation for the unique landscapes of our region.

Hernandez described the reason for spotlighting mother nature in her work of art.

“I love plants and flowers so I came up with mother nature,” Hernandez expressed. “I wanted to put all those flowers and plants so it could look like the forest.”
