"My family's really traditional and old-school — I'm the one that's always pushing the envelope with them," the 'Real Housewives of Miami' star tells PEOPLE

Larsa Pippen may be a mom herself, but she still listens to her parents!

The Real Housewives of Miami star tells PEOPLE she decided to delete a bikini picture of herself she had posted to Instagram Wednesday after her father suggested she remove it.

"My dad sent me a text yesterday and said, 'You published a photo and I think you need to take it down,' " Pippen says. "And when my dad texts me stuff like that, I listen!"

The photo in question was snapped as Pippen sat on a beach chair in a black string bikini. In the pic, she leaned back to show off her suit, bending her right leg to model a diamond anklet (that matched her necklace) and leaving her left leg in the sand.

"Sunshine on my mind," she had captioned the picture.

Her post got plenty of love in the comments section, though the trolls came out as well, criticizing Pippen for what they deemed a provocative pose. That's what prompted her father's request, the reality TV star tells PEOPLE.

"I think my dad got wind of all the stuff that was being put out there," she says. "My family's really traditional and old-school — I'm the one that's always pushing the envelope with them, you know? So when he texted me that, I just deleted it."

"I just didn't want to upset him," she adds. "It wasn't worth me not making him happy at that moment."

Pippen has run into push back from her family in the past. Back in 2022, she revealed her dad begged her to delete her OnlyFans account.

"They're not always happy with me. They're very conservative. They like to live very low-profile — they don't like all the hoopla," Pippen tells PEOPLE. "I feel like, for me, that's all I've known. So I'm very comfortable in craziness and they're not."

"I don't know, sometimes I feel like I shouldn't do too much because I feel like they get affected by my actions," she continues. "But I also have to live my life, you know?"

She finds herself in the same troubles, too, sometimes with her three kids: daughter Sophia, 15, and sons Justin, 19, Preston, 22, and Scotty Jr., 23, — all of whom she shares with ex-husband Scottie Pippen.

"They can be a little embarrassed over things their mom does now and then, but we're a very supportive family," says Pippen. "You know, Scotty Jr. is playing for the Lakers, Justin is getting all these scholarships for basketball, Sophia is modeling, so they're all pursuing things they love."

She continues, "I tell my kids, 'You're not going to have this chance in life. You have to take advantage of your opportunities in life, because you never know when they won't be there.' And they need some reminding of that sometimes, but they ultimately get that."

The Real Housewives of Miami airs Wednesdays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
