Larry Kudlow suffers heart attack, Trump says

Senior White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow was hospitalized Monday after an apparent heart attack.

News of Kudlow’s medical condition was made public by President Trump as he prepared to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Kudlow’s wife, Judy, told the Washington Post Monday night that her husband was “doing fine.”

White House Press secretary Sarah Sanders also released a statement about Kudlow’s condition.

“Earlier today National Economic Council Director and Assistant to the President Larry Kudlow, experienced what his doctors say, was a very mild heart attack. Larry is currently in good condition at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and his doctors expect he will make a full and speedy recovery. The President and his Administration send their thoughts and prayers to Larry and his family,” Sanders said in her statement.

A former commentator on CNBC, Kudlow, 70, had spent much of Sunday defending his own comments about the president’s appearance at the G-7 meetings in Quebec and about a news conference by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after Trump had abruptly departed the country.

“He really kind of stabbed us in the back,” Kudlow said of Trudeau.

Kudlow went on to label Trudeau’s news conference, at which the prime minister said, “Canadians will not be pushed around” on the issue of tariffs, as a “betrayal.”

“We were very close to making a deal with Canada on NAFTA, bilaterally perhaps, and then we leave and Trudeau pulls this sophomoric, political stunt for domestic consumption,” Kudlow said of the meetings.

Kudlow’s description of events was contested by reporters who covered Trudeau’s news conference.
