Larry David Wants You to Stop Going Outside

Hot on the heels of his impromptu appearance on Ezra Koenig’s Apple Music show, Larry David has recorded a PSA about coronavirus that’s directed towards all the dummies out there who don’t understand how great staying at home can be.

The PSA, which the Curb Your Enthusiasm star made in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of California, begins with David explaining that he didn’t really want to record this PSA at all. “Obviously somebody put me up to this, ‘cause it’s generally not the kind of thing I do, but I basically want to address all the idiots out there,” he begins, getting ready to take people who aren’t self-isolating to task.

“You’re hurting old people like me. Well, not me, I have nothing to do with you, I’ll never see you,” David says. “But other, let’s say, other old people who might be your relatives, who the hell knows?”

It’s a different tactic than, say, the Contagion cast’s more serious PSAs from yesterday, but perhaps no less effective.

David goes on to explain that people who are still going out in public—potentially acting as vectors for the virus—are missing “a once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in the house, sit on the couch, and watch TV!”

As Curb Your Enthusiasm viewers know (and the 10th season wrapped up just a few weeks ago, so you could always catch up on any episodes you missed), David enjoys his solitude. His advice is sound, even if for the vast majority of people, dealing with the pandemic isn’t quite as simple as just kicking it in front of the boob tube and waiting for this all to pass—like if you have kids, work in an essential industry, or are trying to figure out how to pay rent, for instance. Still, if you’re able, it’s a good idea to avoid leaving the house and only letting others in for, as David puts it, “a plumbing emergency.”

We venture into the peculiar alternate reality of Larry David and begin to wonder: Is the world's most infamously neurotic man actually its most self-actualized?
