LaPointe Pre-Fall 2021

No one is quite as deliberate about head-to-toe dressing as Sally LaPointe. Customers see Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez or Kendall Jenner wearing a bold monochromatic set from the designer and they want in. The brand’s e-commerce overhaul this summer has proven that merchandising strategically (matching leg covers and all) makes buying a head-to-toe look an understandable no-brainer.

LaPointe continued that monochromatic strategy for pre-fall with a more focused and condensed range in aqua, cerulean, rose, gray and cream. There were classic sequined and smocked satin looks balancing luxury with uncomplicated comfort, and even an elevated attempt at logowear in the form of wool cashmere intarsia knits both with and without feathers.

She put a big focus on feathers here: using them as accents on tops and blazers in place of fur to evolve her design language, and hand-placing individual plumes onto a classic cashmere silk T-shirt that looked easy to wear and still made a statement.

There was subtle experimentation, too, like mixing fabrications or different hues of the same color in a single look. A blue double-face silk twill trench coat, for instance, had a lighter lining, and a sleeveless sequined top was combined with feathers for a festive look. LaPointe has always leveled a brand of luxurious ease that works for various occasions, so in our current reality of lounging at home, boyish long shorts with a silky hand touch seem like a great alternative to sweatpants.
