Lance Reddick Dead at 60: Isiah Whitlock Jr., Ben Stiller and More Pay Tribute

The 'John Wick' and 'The Wire' actor died on March 17, 2023.

Following the death of The Wire and John Wick star Lance Reddick, celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor.

"Shocked and saddened by the news that Lance Reddick has passed away. Truly heartbreaking. R.I.P. My friend. You will be missed. God speed," tweeted Reddick's The Wire co-star Isiah Whitlock Jr.

The Wire's Wendell Pierce also shared a statement on Twitter about his friend's passing. "A man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. A sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP," he wrote.

Julito McCullum, who played Namond Brice in The Wire, also shared a statement on his co-star's death. "Rest In Power Lance Reddick.. a gentleman and a scholar. Love to his family and friends. This one hurts. #WireFam4Life," he tweeted.

Ben Stiller paid tribute to Reddick in a heartfelt statement. "Lance Reddick was an beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person. He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play “Afterplay”, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did. Nothing is lost," he tweeted.

Bosch author Michael Connelly, whose books were adapted into the TV series Reddick starred in, remembered his friend in a touching tweet. "I’m thinking about my friend Lance Reddick. More than being a key ingredient in the Bosch show, he was a wonderful person, friend and collaborator. He took a character who was paper-thin in the books and made Irvin Irving," he wrote.

Questlove expressed the pain of Reddick's passing on social media, writing on both Twitter and Instagram, "I can’t take it no more. Rip Lance Reddick."

James Gunn shared his condolences to Reddick's loved ones in a tweet. "Lance Reddick was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor. This is heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends, and collaborators," he wrote.

Stephen King tweeted in praise of Reddick's acting, writing, "Halfway through re-watching THE WIRE comes the news that Lance Reddick has died at the horribly unfair age of 60. Wonderful actor; wonderful man. This is sad news."

Kurtwood Smith paid tribute to his late Business Ethics co-star with a tweet. "So sorry to hear of the passing of Lance Reddick. A wonderful actor and such as decent man! Way too young to go!," he wrote.

Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey expressed his shock at hearing about Reddick's passing. "RIP Lance Reddick. I can't believe it. Damn," he tweeted.

The George Lucas Talk Show co-host and The Tick star Griffin Newman remembered Reddick's talents, tweeting, "Lance Reddick gave one of the most underrated performances of the last decade on one of the most underrated TV shows of the last decade. The guy was just a total pro."

Besides making his final film appearance on John Wick: Chapter 4, Reddick has a role in the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation, which arrives in 2024.

The cause of death has not been released yet, but sources reveal that the death appears to be of natural causes.
