Lana Del Rey Wrote a Song About North Korea

Though Lana Del Rey may have been onstage at Coachella over the weekend, her mind was in North Korea. But unlike the rest of us who spent our sunny spring days merely fretting over nuclear war, Lana wrote a song about it.
“I'm not gonna lie—I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount,” she wrote on Instagram. “I find It's a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God's good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated.”
In her short song, Del Rey sings: “I’d trade it all for a stairway to heaven. . . . I’d give it all away if you’d give me just one day to answer one question.”
To recap: with the Trump administration actively exacerbating tensions with North Korea, the dictatorship tested a ballistic missile over the weekend—not the nuclear bomb many feared but not nothing.

Like some of her fellow pop stars, Del Rey has been finding her own ways to take action through her art since the inauguration. In February, she tweeted a photo of herself joining in solidarity with witches who per Page Six want to cast a spell to thwart Donald Trump’s presidency.
Spells are as likely to end Trump’s presidency as a song is to ease tensions with North Korea—but every little bit counts, right?
