Lana Del Rey Name-Checked a Buncha People and Started a Stan War on Twitter
Lana Del Rey ignited a stan war on Twitter after name-checking a buncha celebs on Instagram.
Lana addressed critics who accused her of “glamorizing abuse.”
Last night, Lana Del Rey hit Instagram with a leeeeengthy statement about her forthcoming album, during which she took aim at critics who have accused her of “glamorizing abuse.” The thing is, Lana started her statement by comparing herself to several of her peers, including Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj:
“Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyonce have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating, etc—can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money—or whatever I want—without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?”

Lana hasn’t responded to the backlash, but in her statement she wrote, “With all of the topics women are finally allowed to explore, I just want to say over the last 10 years, I think it’s pathetic that my minor lyrical exploration detailing my sometimes submissive or passive roles in my relationships has often made people say I’ve set women back hundreds of years.”
She also said she’d be exploring this topic in her new books of poetry and in her upcoming album out September 5.
