Lana Del Rey recently got candid about her family planning journey in an unexpectedly intimate interview. The 38-year-old singer and famed Waffle House “employee” told The Sunday Times she doesn’t have kids because there is “more to explore” in her life.

“That’s why God didn’t give me children yet,” she said. “…I know people who’ve tested every water. It’s burnt them, like Icarus. But I’m willing to go there.”

The operative word there is “yet.” Del Rey is certain she will be a mother one day. “I see it coming for me. We’ll see. We’ll see what melts the wings.”

If you’re scrolling back up there to look at that number and thinking, “Ummm…38?!” stop right there. A parent should and can become a parent on their own timeline. We’ve seen dozens of celebrity women —most recently Hilary Swank, Naomi Campbell, and Kourtney Kardashian — give birth well after the age of 40.

She can also freeze her eggs or embryos like Chrissy Teigen, Rebel Wilson, and Ariana Madix.

She can adopt like Hoda Kotb, Thomas Rhett, and Angelina Jolie.

Or she can have a baby via surrogate like Paris Hilton, Tan France, and Andy Cohen.

Or! And this is a biggie. She can change her mind. That’s alright too. Because a woman’s worth is not defined by whether or not she’s a mother. And yes, you can do “take backs” before deciding to have a family.

No matter if, when, or how you start a family, we’ll be cheering you on, Lana!

Before you go, check out these celebrities who have opened up about completing their families through adoption.
