  • The American Idol 2019 finale results are in, and Laine Hardy is the official winner of season 3.

  • Laine Hardy beat out finalists Madison VanDenburg and Alejandro Aranda for the top spot.

After months of competition, American Idol has crowned its new winner - and congratulations are in order for Laine Hardy!

Laine was declared the 2019 winner during Sunday's finale after securing the most votes during the live coast-to-coast broadcast. For the title, he beat out fellow top 3 finalists Alejandro Aranda and Madison VanDenburg. During the show, he performed "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)" by Hank William, and also joined Jon Pardi on stage for a special medley of "Night Shift" and "Dirt on My Boots."

Laine's win on Sunday night shows how far the young contestant has come. Just last year he tried out for season 16 of the show and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie didn't even put him into the top 50. In one year's time, he went from just another contestant to the champion of the entire show.

Naturally, Laine's fans were absolutely ecstatic the moment host Ryan Seacrest announced that he was the winner.

"Laine winning American Idol is the best thing to ever happen," a Laine fan said. "Laine Hardy’s story is one of redemption and perseverance. Congrats. You earned it," another exclaimed.

Of course, though, that meant Alejandro and Madison voters and followers weren't exactly thrilled with the outcome of it all.

"OMG! Madison you rock.. i'm so disappointed you deserved to win. I'm buying your first release," one fan tweeted. Another disgruntled viewer claimed, "Madison is the most talented and gifted singer on the show. It's all rigged anyway."

Alejandro fans were equally upset.

"I’M SO MAD ALEJANDRO DID’T WIN #AmericanIdol he deserves it!!" an Idol finale watcher tweeted. "Laine may have 'won', but MY Idol is Alejandro-singer/songwriter/composer. Waiting for the album," another said.

Even though Alejandro and Madison fans don't appear to be jumping for joy at the moment, we're sure the finalists' incredible vocals will carry them beyond this competition. Just look at runner-up Adam Lambert who just performed on the finale - he's now touring with Queen and is working on his sixth album. If we had to guess, the future is most definitely going to be bright for Alejandro and Madison.

Now that the results are in and the finale is over, American Idol has officially come to an end for the year. In 2018, many of the top finalists went on tour around the country all throughout July, August, and September. American Idol has yet to announce if that'll be the case again this year, but if it is, Laine will likely be involved.

But until that decision is made, it's time to celebrate Laine's success and hope that he releases new music really, really soon. We'll all be waiting!
