Laffy Taffy Just Launched a Banana-Only Bag

Warning: I have some very disturbing news to report. What you’re about to read may be upsetting for some people.

Laffy Taffy is making a limited-edition banana-only bag called “Gone Bananas.” Why would they do this, you ask? I don’t know. I guess they just want to watch the world burn.

Before today, I thought that everyone disliked banana-flavored Laffy Taffy. Maybe I’m blinded by my own hatred, but I can’t imagine anyone enjoying that cloying, over-the-top faux banana taste.

But, as it turns out, I’m actually in the minority.

"Across the industry we've found consumers are partial to their favorite flavors but in our experience, no flavor has been quite as polarizing as our banana flavored Laffy Taffy," said Brian Lutz, Laffy Taffy brand manager at Ferrara Candy Company in a press release. "Our research shows sixty-one percent of Americans identify banana-flavored Laffy Taffy as their favorite flavor.”

Sixty-one percent?!? I know I’m bad at math, but I’m pretty sure that’s A LOT OF PEOPLE, YOU GUYS.

It’s so hard for me to believe that more than half of the population is walking around liking banana-flavored Laffy Taffy—but that’s just a reality I’ll have to accept, I suppose.

This whole nightmare started when Joel McHale posted this image to Instagram:

A week later, he posted this:

I want to clarify, banana Laffy Taffy never went anywhere. This was all apparently part of some big April Fool’s Day “prank.” Hilarious, you guys.

"We knew those who love the banana flavor are very passionate about the flavor, and as this joke demonstrated, it certainly got people talking about the brand,” said Lutz. “We're excited to launch our banana-only bag of Laffy Taffy and want to give our deep thanks to all those who helped make this the best April Fool's Day prank we've ever done, whether they knew they were a part of it or not."

I know you have questions. I do too.

How was this a prank? Who are these people who say they like these pale yellow monstrosities? When did Joel McHale become a Laffy Taffy spokesperson?

I don’t know.

Here’s what I do know: You can buy a bag right now at grocery, drug, and convenience stores nationwide.
