The Owen Valley girls' basketball team took part in Eastern Greene's Toby Yoho tournament over the holiday break, going 2-2 in the two-day event.

The Lady Patriots suffered two losses on day one and rebounded with two wins on day two.

"This tournament has always been a really tough tournament for us and for every team that comes into it... four games in two days is extremely tough," OV head coach Trace Temples said. "Our challenge four our kids, and we've kind of been on a little bit of a skid here, our challenge was to make sure, no matter what, that we get better this weekend. And the next challenge is getting back to having fun and doing what you do."

OV took on North Knox in the first game, falling 48-32. OV held their own through the first half, trailing by just four at halftime, 23-19. A big 19-point third quarter allowed North Knox to pull away and eventually win by 16.

Reagan Martin led with 15 points, followed by Madi Kay with six, Kyndall Drake five, Elizabeth Johnson two and Taylor York two.9

In the second game on day one, the Lady Patriots fell to Paoli in a rough and tumble game, 32-23.

OV led 7-4 after the first quarter, but a poor shooting second gave the Rams the advantage at halftime, 15-9. Both teams were even in the third with 10 points, but the Rams outscored OV in the fourth to seal the deal.

Martin again led, scoring 11 points, with Drake adding seven, York three and Kay two.

It was a much different day on day two with the Patriots opening up play with a hard-fought, two overtime win over Bloomfield, 41-37.

Madi Kay was on fire, scoring 21 points. Reagan Martin added nine, Kyndall Drake eight and Taylor York three.

In the final game of the day, OV took care of business, defeating Barr Reeve, 49-26.

Martin finished with 28 points, Drake nine, Kay six and York two.

This week, the first two games, we competed extremely hard. We didn't come out on the winning end, but we showed a lot of grit. And today, coming back over, our big goal to get two (wins). This team has responded extremely well. Responded better than I could have expected," Temples continued. "Different players stepping up and it wasn't just one or two. It was the entire group stepping up. The energy that we brought on the bench was good. Every player that stepped into the game did their job. I'm just extremely proud.

"Our guard play, with Lily (Smith), Elizabeth (Johnson), Taylor (York) and Kyndall (Drake) was much more aggressive this week. And with that - it opens up a lot of things. For one, every single one of them are capable of getting to the bucket and scoring and capitalizing and they did that at times this week," Temples explained. "Madi Kay, we really challenged her and she had a heck of a day. She came out and shot the ball extremely well, took advantage of her matchup. And then to end the day, Reagan (Martin) did her thing, once again broke the single-game block record with 10 today. So extremely proud of her for that. This was a team effort. Our kids are playing really hard."

The Lady Patriots will be back in action again this week when they travel to Cloverdale Friday night and then to Northview on Saturday. Both games are set for a 6 p.m. start
