Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana must be the most prodigious creators in fashion. Precisely 14 hours before their prêt-à-porter show today, as the hour struck 10:00 last night, the designers were mingling with their jet-setting fans, all of whom seemed to be wearing their freshest and best Dolce & Gabbana.

The occasion was the duo’s “Secrets & Diamonds” show, an eveningwear-only presentation modeled by Brits including, among others, Lady Kitty Spencer (a cousin of Princes William and Harry); Ladies Violet, Alice, and Eliza Manners (aka the “real-life Crawley sisters of London”); girlfriends Bee Beardsworth, a model and photographer, and Daisy Maybe, a musician; and Maddi Waterhouse, Suki’s little sis. All of them will sit front row at the designers’ show today.

Corso Venezia’s Martini Bar was trussed up with more disco balls than we could count, the prosecco was flowing, Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, and Rihanna crooned about diamonds, and Liza Minelli and Joel Grey sang Cabaret’s “Money Makes the World Go Round.” Subtlety is not Dolce & Gabbana’s specialty, and that’s precisely what attracts their standing-room-only crowd to them, including a large contingent from China, which has reportedly become the label’s biggest market.

Well, that, and the curve-enhancing, can’t-peel-your-eyes-away way they cut a dress. There were dozens of them, not a few of their sexily cut suits, one silver hoodie proudly declaring “ROYAL!” and, because these were millennial aristos we are talking about, a pants-less look, to boot. All of it was smothered in hundreds of giant heart- and fan-shaped crystals, paved with thousands of rhinestones, or otherwise aglitter, with strass-covered shoes and minaudières and heaps upon heaps of paste jewelry to match. Who knows, given the casting, maybe one or two of those tiaras were real?

With the disco lights swirling, it was like the models and the crowd, and even us hoi polloi-ish journos had been magically transported to Kirakira land, and we liked it. We really did.
