Lady Gaga vs. Cate Blanchett: Who Wore Feathers Best?

‘Tis the season of feathers, jewels and extravagantly gowns—the Venice Film Festival has officially arrived. The buzziest films, and the talents starring in them, have arrived in Venice to debut for film critics. One of the most anticipated productions of the festival? A Star Is Born, the much-hyped remake production by Bradley Cooper, co-starring Lady Gaga. At last night’s premiere, Lady Gaga walked the red carpet in a dreamy, out-of-this-world gown that was perfectly on point for the festival’s glamorous, more-is-more aesthetic—as did actress Cate Blanchett, who also attended the premiere in a feathered creation. Which can only mean one thing: It’s time for some good old-fashioned comparison analysis.

In a pink plumaged gown by Valentino Haute Couture, designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, Lady Gaga was the vision of Hollywood royalty in the voluminous silhouette. Dubbed “Flamingo,” the dress is made of organza embroidered with tiers of pale pink feather merlons. Rest assured, a dress as fabulous as this does not need much else, and Gaga allowed it to shine, pairing it with tasteful jewelry and a simple up-do.

Meanwhile, Blanchett opted to wear a design by Giorgio Armani Privé. The black silk and velvet dress featured a plunging neckline and sleeves embroidered with white feathers. (If Gaga’s dress was a feathery explosion, Blanchett’s feathered sleeves offered more of a subtle bang.) She paired it with high-shine jewels by Chopard. As for who wore it best? It’s a hard, hard tie in this case, though Gaga does get bonus points for going all the way with it.
