Lady Gaga Performs at Stonewall National Monument for WorldPride 2019

Lady Gaga celebrated NYC’s Stonewall50 commemoration by dressing completely in rainbow as a literal embodiment of Pride. June 28 marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, and Gaga’s surprise appearance at the Stonewall National Monument in Greenwich Village was met with riotous cheers from all in attendance.

Arriving with Donatella Versace, a Stonewall Ambassador, Gaga dressed accordingly, in a head-to-toe custom Versace look that took its cues from the Pride flag. She paired her rainbow denim jacket with a high-waisted pair of rainbow crystal-fringed denim shorts and a seriously glittery pair of Swarovski crystal embellished thigh-high boots. Topping off the look with a rainbow banded military-style beret, Gaga was a vision of polychrome perfection.

Taking to the stage, Gaga delivered an emotional speech with the resounding messages of love, equality, acceptance, and resilience in the face of adversity. Wiping away a tear as she addressed the crowd, she spoke of her deep love for and connection with the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Look around you. Look at what you have done,” Gaga said. “You deserve a round of applause. It makes me cry, I am so emotional today. This community has fought and continued to fight, a war of acceptance, a war of tolerance, and the most relentless bravery. You are the definition of courage, do you know that?”

She continued her speech with an impassioned statement on the importance of visibility, voting, and activism for equal rights.“This is your freedom. This is your joy that you have deserved always. I will not stop in pursuit of this liberation,” Gaga went on to say, closing her speech with another message of unconditional love: “True love, true, true love is when you would take a bullet for someone and you know that I would take a bullet for you any day of the week."
