Lady Gaga opens up about her next chapter: ‘I look forward to being a mom’

Lady Gaga has seemingly conquered all in the realm of entertainment, with countless accolades for her music and, most recently, her acting in A Star is Born. Now, the 34-year-old has her sights set on a new chapter in her life with hopes to start a family.

“I will say I am very excited to have kids,” Gaga told InStyle magazine for its May cover story. “I look forward to being a mom.”

The singer-songwriter is currently gearing up to put out her sixth studio album, Chromatica, which demonstrates that she’s not ready to slow down when it comes to her career. However, after admitting that what she’s most looking forward to right now is marriage, Gaga — born Stefani Germanotta — is ready to accomplish it all with a partner by her side.

“More music, more movies, more charity with the Born This Way Foundation [a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth and supporting mental health and wellness]. I want to do way more philanthropy. I want to help fund more research about fibromyalgia and neuropathic and chronic pain by putting a team of doctors together,” she explained. (As far as philanthropy goes, Gaga’s already ramping it up, as she just announced the One World: Together at Home virtual fundraising concert, which she’s co-organizing with Global Citizen and the World Health Organization). “I have a lot of dreams and hopes. What I will actually accomplish, I have no idea, but I know that I'll be doing it with the people I love.”

Gaga’s philanthropic efforts are in part a result of her own mental health struggles and chronic pain that she’s been open about in the past. “I think it took me some time to grieve about the things that have happened to me, and I couldn't be angry with myself for how long it took,” she told InStyle. “I've been depressed and been at the grocery store and seen photos of myself and gone, 'Well, I look like everything is good.' But I was secretly freaking out.”

And although taking care of herself is a work in progress, Gaga is also ready to do her part when it comes to politics.

“I want to make an informed decision as a citizen on who to vote for in the election, but I do not obsess over figures who do not deserve to be obsessed over,” she said. “I'm not going to hang my hat for humanity on one individual. It's also on us to run this country. Putting so much importance on the government as the overarching, all-knowing force that runs our lives — I just don't believe that to be true. I believe that we have the power to decide what the culture of this country looks like. We have the power to decide how we deal with one another socially. And we don't need to place too much power in anyone's hands. That said, I'm watching what happens. I think we all know who I will not be voting for.”
