The multi-hyphenate shared the importance of spending time alone.

Lady Gaga is looking forward to having some alone time.

In an interview with Wallpaper discussing her new campaign for Dom Pérignon, the icon shared her plans for the future.

"I'm actually really interested in living more of a life of solitude," said Gaga. "It's really nice to just have time to be alone, and be expansive, and know that you're enough. I wish I could tell myself that."

She remarked that it's been tough to feel confident in her career the more successful she gets. "When I was younger, I spent a lot of time alone writing music. But the more successful I became, the more I felt like I needed other people to tell me I was great."

Gaga, 36, also explained her need for solitude, saying that as a teen, Rainer Maria Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet left a lasting impression on her.

A quote from the book particularly resonated with her, which she got tattooed on her arm when she was 23: "In the deepest hour of the night, ask yourself if you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. Look deep into your heart where the answer spreads its roots and ask yourself, Muss ich schreiben? (Must I write?)."

She noted that even if she weren't as wildly successful as she is today, she would still spend her time writing alone.

"I know that because I actually don't spend a lot of time in Hollywood," she remarked. "I might look like I do, because sometimes award season happens and you see me on red carpets. But I'm very much at home working… that's the thing that really makes me happy."

After a very busy 2022, Gaga will have some downtime this year with no tour plans announced yet. She also stars in the musical Joker sequel Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix, which premieres in 2024.
