Lady Gaga Has Broken Her Silence on That Sensual “Shallow” Performance With Bradley Cooper at the Oscars

Sorry, world—Gaga wants you to know that she’s just a really good actress.

Lady Gaga is at last—some agonizing 72 hours later—breaking her silence on her sensual “Shallow” performance with Bradley Cooper at the Oscars. You know, the one that had some fans declaring themselves impregnated, and others speculating that the A Star Is Born costars have real-life romantic feelings for each other and were pretty rude to flaunt it before the very eyes of Cooper’s partner, Irina Shayk.

The truth, according to Gaga on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, is considerably less scandalous. “People saw love, and guess what?” Lady Gaga said on the talk show. “That’s what we wanted you to see.” In other words, to quote the woman well on her way to an EGOT: “I’m an artist, and I guess we did a good job. Fooled ya!”

Well. Isn’t this the shocking twist: Two Oscar-nominated actors—at, uh, the very ceremony where they were being recognized—were acting. If social media made you feel differently, well: “Social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet,” Gaga said on Kimmel. “And what it has done to pop culture is just abysmal.”

Though, for all of the fans who were shipping and projecting their own love for Cooper and Gaga onto the performance, take heart in the fact that you’re not totally delusional. Their chemistry is magical and enchanting, at least, and 100 percent real. Watch the full interview below:
