The Ladies of ‘The Hills’ Shared Some Behind-the-Scenes Details on the MTV Reboot

MTV’s reboot of The Hills has been in the works for several months now, and while we still don’t have an exact premiere date — it’s due sometime this summer — we do have some idea of what we can expect from the show. Leading ladies Heidi Montag, Whitney Port, Audrina Patridge, and Mischa Barton opened up about the series in an interview for Cosmopolitans April issue, sharing a little bit about how New Beginnings will differ from the original.

Barton, who’s new to the group, said she was initially worried that “the drama would land on [her],” because she is unmarried and doesn’t have children, unlike original Hills stars Montag, Patridge, and Port. “But the bulk of the drama comes from the history they have,” she told Cosmo.

That said, New Beginnings is, as the title suggests, a new beginning. For one thing, many of the stars now have families, although, as Cosmo notes, their kids will not feature prominently on the show, with the possible exception of Montag’s son Gunner.

For another, former cast members Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari are not a part of the reboot. “I wish I could be part of it, I really do,” Cavallari, who is unable to participate because of her own reality show, E!’s Very Cavallari, recently told Us Weekly. “I wish I could make a little cameo or something!”

Conrad hasn’t spoken about the reboot, but as Montag told Cosmo, the current cast’s ongoing friendships are a better fit for New Beginnings anyway. “Sometimes things happen that will change how you feel about people, and sometimes it’s very permanent,” she said, alluding to her famous falling-out with Conrad. “I thought with Lauren and me, we would’ve been friends again.”

MTV announced the Hills reboot at the 2018 MTV VMAs last August. Spencer Pratt, Jason Wahler, Frankie Delgado, Justin “Justin Bobby” Brescia, and Brody Jenner are also set to appear.
