Lab Mix Rescued 2 Years Ago Is Now Training to Be a Natural Disaster Search Dog

If dogs could talk, then this Lab mix named Nanci would tell you she never imagined herself with a very important job. Two years ago she was getting bounced from home to home before being surrendered to a Missouri-based shelter. Her hopes of a forever home faded. But luckily, a nonprofit noticed her.

Nanci moved to California to train as a natural disaster search dog. From being a rescue to the one rescuing, this story will truly melt your heart. Watch the full report shared to the TikTok news account @abcworldnews.

This story made our entire week! We love that they're rescuing dogs from shelters, especially since shelters around the country are overflowing with residents. Nanci is currently working daily on drills to prepare for her FEMA certification and once she passes, she'll be ready to go for future deployments.

"Fantastic idea to train shelter dogs to be search and rescue!" wrote @greek_ak. Right?! We'd never heard of this organization before, but we've instantly fallen in love with its mission. Not only are these dogs training to save lives, but they're also getting forever homes along the way. Does it get any more special than that? @ibml2021 added, "Nancy is a rockstar!" You can say that again! And it's not just Nancy that's a rockstar. All of these dogs are!

Founded in 1996, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation rescues and recruits dogs around the country. These dogs are then partnered with firefighters or first responded and trained to find people in the aftermath of disasters. Aww, we seriously couldn't love this anymore and we can't wait to see Nanci do great things!
