From Town & Country

Unique in the beauty world, La Prairie is all about supporting exceptional art, and creating skincare as art. The new Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation collection comes with an art-world pedigree, and boasts some of La Prairie’s most sophisticated and skin-rejuvenating scientific advancements yet.

First, the art: The brand partnered with minimalist composer Max Richter, who wrote “Platinum,” an evocative score for an accompanying short film exploring the passage of time, The Platinum Moment, and a collaborative installation by multimedia visual artist Nobohiro Nakanishi, Echo of Time. The works are meditations on the concept of deep time—think planetary, universal time, evoked by Nakanishi’s gorgeous imagery of snow-covered Swiss mountains and Richter’s emotive, soaring soundtrack. “For me, it was about writing an emotional landscape that connect to these ideas in a metaphorical way. When we think about time, it’s natural to think about our time span and what it means,” Richter says. “I wanted the music to have this landscape of eternity feeling that feels connected to the physical properties of platinum itself—the rarity, the preciousness, the way it reflects light in a silvery way. But at the same time, I also wanted to communicate this idea of great value that platinum has, and in musical terms the idea of great value becomes emotion.”

Now, the skincare: La Prairie first launched the Platinum Rare collection in 2008, a luxurious range formulated to make skin resistant to the ravages of time courtesy of an infusion of platinum (combined, as always, with the brand’s Exclusive Cellular Complex). In October, the first wave of the re-imagined line dropped—a seven-product range that pushes the original science even further, enhancing its capabilities to boost cellular activity, strengthen the skin barrier, and deliver deep hydration. The new introduction, though, is the piece de resistance—the La Prairie Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation Protocol, a month-long intensive facial treatment that is designed to deliver complete rejuvenation by the regimen’s end.

Harnessing the full capabilities of the Exclusive Cellular Complex and refined platinum, the formula softens the skin barrier to allow penetration of its active ingredients, which include signaling molecules that galvanize the creation of collagen. Housed in a trio of amethyst glass bottles that are themselves works of art, the Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation Protocol is designed to be used for a month, intermittently four times a year. And as for the passage of time, both “deep” and incremental? Feel free to ponder it all you wish—you won’t be seeing it on your face.
