La Jolla brunch spot recognized by Yelp for its popular meal

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Whether at home or going out, brunch is a fun way to eat in the morning/afternoon.

The meal sets the mood for the day, from the smell of sizzling bacon to the sight of fresh pancakes sliding smoothly onto your plate.

Yelp recently compiled a list of 25 spots that have “non-traditional eggs benedicts to add to your brunch bucket list.” Harry’s Coffee Shop in La Jolla, with its meal “The B.W. Benny,” came in at the top spot.

The base of “The B.W. Benny” consists of a golden brown waffle with bacon inside, according to Harry’s Coffee Shop menu. On top of the waffle, you’ll find grilled ham and poached eggs, topped with the restaurant’s rich hollandaise sauce and warm maple syrup.

Popular National City coffee and burrito spot to close

Having been in business since 1960, Harry’s Coffee Shop is inspired by the coffee shops and diners of Brooklyn where the founder, Harry J. Rudolph, Jr. was born.

“Harry and his wife Catherine set out to open a restaurant that conveyed the same nostalgia, neighborhood comfort, friendliness and style that was found on so many street corners throughout the boroughs of New York City,” the restaurant said on its website.

Harry’s Coffee Shop has another location in Del Mar at 454 Camino Del Mar.

Yelp’s methodology for this list includes asking its community managers and ambassadors around the U.S. to share their favorite non-traditional eggs benedicts. All of the businesses selected were marked open on Yelp as of April 5, 2024, while the featured eggs benedicts were on each restaurant’s menu as of March 28, 2024.
