La DoubleJ RTW Fall 2021

J.J. Martin made a whirlwind trip to the jungle for fall via old book illustrations of wild animals, unicorns included. She splashed these creatures across her fun fall collection.

The look: Eccentric, conversation-starting garb for ladies who party at home, pandemic permitting, and want a day-to-night look with some extravagance, including roomy gowns with a loungewear feel.

Quote of note: “I’m trying to give women a dress that they can wear all year-round and to all occasion, because it’s basically how we all dress these days,” Martin said.

Standout pieces: A Halston-style evening caftan with tile-inspired prints for future getaways to the Bahamas; bias-cut asymmetric skirts with handkerchief hemlines combining different prints; a culotte and bow-tie shirt ensemble in a refreshing floral motif, and reversible puffer jackets combining jacquard on the outside and nylon on the inside — chic enough to layer over a ballgown.

Takeaway: J.J. Martin continues to build on her engaging print bonanzas while each season trying to understand her clientele better and offer a complete wardrobe that is charming and exuberant.
