It took three years to make.

Thanks to a combination of personal obsession and a decade in the beauty industry, I now consider myself to be a foundation expert. Most weeks at least six formulas make their way into my hands and onto my face. So when I heard that a brand like Kylie Jenner Cosmetics spent three-plus years working on creating the “perfect” foundation, I had to get all the information I could ASAP.

I was thrilled when Kylie Jenner herself agreed to talk to InStyle about the new Power Plush Longwear Foundation. All of those years of formulation and patience paid off, because Kylie Jenner says that her new foundation “gives skin this gorgeous satin finish, it’s long-wearing, and easily buildable without feeling cakey or clogging pores.” She added, “it was also important to me that it had skincare ingredients, and was really comfortable and lightweight.”

On the skincare side, there’s glycerin and niacinamide which pack long-term brightening and moisturizing properties that ensure your skin will love and continue to love this the longer you wear it. On the cosmetic side, Power Plush comes in 40 shades — it’s an expansive shade range that I found all the more impressive after testing myself. I was able to flirt with three different colors thanks to the painstaking work that went into making sure every foundation color has a wide range of undertones, too. My sometimes neutral, sometimes cold undertones squealed at the options. The formula is also highly malleable, buildable, and doesn’t require priming or setting which makes that three-year wait worth it.

Lastly, I had to ask Jenner how her makeup always seems impeccable. When it comes to her complexion she says, “I like to build up my foundation… I’ll start with a thin layer and then apply more on the areas that need extra coverage.” I’ll be keeping that in mind when I inevitably try to replicate her ethereal Jean Paul Gaultier Paris Fashion Week look.
