Kylie Jenner Threw a 'Tone-Deaf' Handmaid's Tale Party and Twitter Is Not Happy
Kylie Jenner threw her friend Anastasia Karanikolaou a cute pool party complete with Instagrammable pool floats and a pink bikini dress code, and that was nice. But she also threw her an equally lavish-and pretty problematic-Handmaid's Tale birthday party.
Jenner's party was a strange little twist on the dystopian series where women are forced to be mere vessels for carrying powerful men's children, are routinely raped, and have essentially no rights. The party had Handmaid's Tale cloaks for guests to wear, a fancy dinner, and lots of elegant decorations. Twitter had a lot to say about that glamorizing of misogyny and violence, as you can imagine. Here's just a sample of the criticism:

Jenner's response to this backlash seems to be silent, perhaps with the hope it'll wash over (though there's always a chance she was filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians when she threw the party and could later respond to the scandal it caused on the show). There is currently no trace on her Instagram that she threw the Handmaid's Tale party. The bulk of her photos and Instagram Stories currently up are of the pool party she threw along with an extensive tribute to her best friend Anastasia Karanikolaou, the birthday girl.
"So it all started when I met a beautiful bomb ass blonde at Barnes and Nobles. This was our first pic together before we were friends," she captioned one shot, explaining the origin of their friendship and how far back they go. "Then soon after you became another sister. Stas [Karanikolaou goes by the name "Stassie"] basically lived with me growing up, and it was the 3 of us always."
