Kylie Jenner Has a Sexy New Styling Trick

Who says undergarments have to stay under your clothes? In 2019, really no one. And yesterday, Kylie Jenner showed us another way to take our historically controversial undergarments out into the open. While vacationing in the South of France to celebrate her 22nd birthday, she stepped out in a frilly, floral print short dress by Duygu Ay Collection, paired with pearl dotted angular sunglasses by Gucci, a charming pink baby-size Hermès Birkin bag, and Bottega Veneta white slides. For a final body-cinching touch, she sported a white, bust-revealing corset on top of the mini dress, giving the current prairie dress phenomenon a very sexy makeover. Fun fashion fact: She was accompanied by her partner rapper Travis Scott who wore a graphic Céline blouse from the Spring 2011 collection, the same one that Kanye West wore to perform at Coachella in 2011. Scott—like myself and plenty of non-celebrities—is fast becoming a very chic outfit repeater, having worn the top a few times now.. Not a bad example to be setting.

But back to Jenner, whose exposed corset look has been cropping up for a few seasons now. In Fall 2016, Prada debuted the styling trick with a series of loosely-fastened designs, and it didn't take long for a series of celebrities to being wearing the look, including Rihanna and Jenner’s sister, Kim Kardashian West. More recently, vintage incarnations of the S-shaped piece—specifically those by Jean Paul Gaultier in the ’80s—have become a coveted signature, partly thanks to corset dealer Johnny Valencia of Pechuga Vintage. So, why should we hide those waist whittlers anyway? Corsets, including Jenner’s charming version, are very pretty. And as the saying goes: if you’ve got it, flaunt it.
