Kylie Jenner Is Being Accused of Copying an Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palette

Rapunzel, that you?

Kylie Jenner is no stranger to being called out for products that seem a little too familiar to those of other brands whether it's with clothing designs or social media inspo. And now, people online have a bone to pick with Kylie's latest makeup release, the Sorta Sweet Palette, which some fans believe is uncomfortably similar to Anastasia Beverly Hills's Soft Glam eyeshadow palette.

After Kylie revealed the palette on June 19, Twitter users took note of the Sorta Sweet launch announcement and, as Cosmo UK reported, immediately drew comparisons between Kylie's latest palette and the ABH fan-favorite. "Kylie Jenner’s sorta sweet palette looks like a lesser version of abh soft glam and it makes me sad that she has this platform to be creative and gives us things we’ve seen a million times," one user tweeted. Another took a harsher stance — namely, a reminder that we probably don't need multiple versions of the same shades: "So kylie, kkw, huda beauty, ABH are literally coming up with same shades in their eyeshadow palettes (maroon, brown, gold, etc.) and women around the world are spending $$$ to buy the same thing with a different logo."

While both palettes feature neutrals shades like rose gold, bronze, and chocolate browns, it's not like either beauty brand necessarily invented the idea of pairing together blush-toned neutrals. (For what it’s worth, the specific combination of shades themselves are pretty similar.) However, rose gold — whether in makeup, hair color, or tech accessories — is definitely having a moment. On May 14, Huda Beauty announced that it was relaunching one of their bestselling palettes, Rose Gold Remastered, much to the delight of fans everywhere.

If you're choosing between the two palettes, it might be helpful to keep in mind that Kylie Cosmetics's palette has nine shades to Soft Glam's 14. While pricing info for Kylie's latest drop hasn't been confirmed yet, most of her other nine-pan shadow palettes retail for $42 — the same price as those sold by Anastasia Beverly Hills, which also comes with a brush. The decision of which palette is worth your money, is of course, up to you. You certainly have your pick when it comes to getting a similar look at the drugstore, too: Elf's Nude Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette and Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes are two under-$11 ways to get in on the trend.
