Kylie Jenner’s Baby Name Announcement Is the Most Liked Instagram in History

Kylie Jenner's first post of Stormi surpassed the former record-holding photo, Cristiano Ronaldo's, by over two million likes.

Baby Stormi is only a week old, and she's already breaking world records: the picture of her holding her mom Kylie Jenner's perfectly manicured thumb is officially the most liked photo on Instagram with almost 14 million likes (and counting).

It surpasses the previous record holder, Cristiano Ronaldo, who had around 11.3 million likes for his post about the birth of his twins. Previous wearers of the "most-liked" crown also include Selena Gomez, who opened up about her kidney transplant on Instagram this fall, and Beyoncé, who sent a wave of excitement around the world with her avant-garde pregnancy announcement.

“More and more, we’re seeing the world’s most influential public figures turn to Instagram to share their most intimate and personal moments, and in turn, bring Instagram’s global community in on the joy and celebration,” Instagram said in a statement.

Jenner's feat is made even more impressive considering she has millions fewer followers than Ronaldo, Gomez, and Beyoncé (Gomez holds the top spot with 133 million followers). But while the others may have had bigger audiences, Jenner had the element of suspense on her side.

While Jenner's pregnancy was widely reported, it was never confirmed, causing fans (and well, just about everybody) to psychoanalyze and downright stalk her every move on social media. Snapchatting pink nails? It's a girl! Showing off an iPhone case with blue lips? It's a boy! Quoting a song lyric with the word "baby" in it? That must be a sign! Given the frenzy of conspiracy theories based on vague clues, Jenner's announcement was a moment of collective relief; concrete information at last. Kylie fans rushed to consume as much as possible—liking it all in the process.
