Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth rose to stardom after her roles in Broadway hit musicals like You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and of course, Wicked. Also known for her roles in hit TV shows like Pushing Daisies and Glee, and movies including Running With Scissors and Netflix’s hit holiday film, Holidate, Chenoweth rarely gets to enjoy the holidays to their fullest extent because it’s a busy time of year for entertainers. “As entertainers, the holidays are a time for us to reap what we sow,” Chenoweth told SheKnows. But this year, Chenoweth is carving out special time to dedicate to making the holiday season as bright and cheerful as possible.

“My new husband and I are doing things a little differently this year,” Chenoweth explains. “We’re not going to work on Christmas and Thanksgiving and we’re going to spend time putting up a tree, decorating, making some hot chocolate, and throwing on a Hallmark movie in the background while we decorate.” After getting engaged in 2021, Chenoweth wed musician Josh Bryant in September this year and since this will be their first holiday season as a married couple, they plan to make the most of it.

To help maximize the amount of merry being spread this holiday season, Chenoweth has also teamed up with the brilliant team at Command™ to help launch a nationwide sweepstakes calling for consumers to nominate a holiday hero who always makes the holidays magical. To enter, all you need to do is comment on Command’s Instagram post (found here) and and tag the person you want to nominate along with a short description of why they are deserving of the ultimate Command™ Brand Product Holiday Package.  The sweepstakes ends on November 29, 2023 and one special winner will receive a $25,000 cash prize, plus a $1,000 gift card to purchase a variety of holiday decor.

In honor of Chenoweth’s partnership with Command, we sat down and spoke with Chenoweth about all of the ways she’s turning her home into a cozy and festive winter wonderland, plus some tips for you to decorate your own homes as well.

Start early

We’re living in some pretty unprecedented times and world events can easily take a toll on your mental and emotional health. So if busting out the Christmas tree before Thanksgiving will bring you a little bit of happiness, Chenoweth says go for it. “I think the world needs a little joy right now. We need to see love and feel joy right now, more than any other time that I have been alive so why not?”

Not that you need permission, but if you were looking for an excuse to bust out your cozy decor a bit earlier than usual, you have Chenoweth’s full support.

Trimming your tree

You could say Chenoweth’s motto when it comes to decorating the holiday tree is “Go big or go home.” Chenoweth doesn’t opt for a traditional tree, instead, she will be decorating a pink tree this year. “Two or three years ago, I was given a pink Christmas tree that I love. It’s big, it’s tall, it’s just gorgeous,” Chenoweth says. And of course, you can’t just throw any old ordinary ornaments on a tree that fabulous so Chenoweth and her husband will be hanging fine European glass ornaments made by the famous Christopher Radko on their pink tree. If Christopher Radko is out of your budget, we found lots of similar glass ornaments right at Target for as low as $3.50! You can find them all here.

White or colored lights?

You should decorate your home with whichever lights make you the happiest. Chenoweth personally opts for white lights and even keeps them up year-round in her bathroom. “I always think things are better with lighting,” Chenoweth says. “I put twinkle lights up, not just at Christmas, but all year around the mirror in my bathroom.”

Holiday Trends: Yay or nay?

“Holiday onesie”It’s not really new but the holiday onesies that became popular during COVID, I’m still all about those,” Chenoweth says. And honestly, same. There are few things comfier and cozier than sipping some hot chocolate with holiday music playing in the background while you’re bundled up in a festive onesie.
