Kristin Chenoweth is mourning the death of her biological mother, Lynn.

The Broadway star took to social media this afternoon, Aug. 19, to share the devastating news alongside a series of photos from days spent together since they first reconnected, just over a decade ago.

"The angel that brought me into this world has passed," Chenoweth wrote on Instagram today. "Her name is Lynn. Aka Mamalynn."

She described the time she got to know Mamalynn as "magic," opening up about learning more about herself as they became familiar with each other.

"Those of us who knew her loved her light. Her love of music and all things artistic. An artist herself! The mother of beautiful Jennifer and darling Chris. Man she loved her kids!"

The musician went on to talk about the inspirations she became familiar with while Lynn was pregnant with her, including Stevie Ray, Jimmie Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall, and Jimi Hendrix. "...and, of course, Billy Ethridge - my bio dad. The two of them gave me the innate artistic ability I have today."

She continued, "Mamalynn prayed for me every year on my birthday, hoping I was having the most perfect life, which of course, I was. I snuck away and prayed for her too, wishing that someday I would be allowed tell her 'thank you.' Which I did on 12/12/12. A beautiful day! We didn’t leave anything unsaid in the end."

Chenoweth concluded, "I will miss her till the end of my days. But then, I will fly into the sky, where she will be waiting to greet me, and she will say, 'start singing Babygirl!' And I will. RIP Mamalynn ❤️."

She did not reveal exactly when or where Lynn died, nor what the suspected cause of death is.

The former Wicked actress, 55, was adopted at five days old by her parents, Junie and Jerry. She has previously said that Lynn "gave me life" while Junie "gave me a life."
