Kristen Doute is opening up about the unfortunate but common, if still underdiscussed, experience of miscarrying on her journey to start a family.

“I only feel comfortable talking about this because I know so many friends of mine have gone through this. I know so many women have been through this,” the Vanderpump Rules star shared on a recent episode of her podcast, per Page Six, recalling the “fucking terrifying” experience of a miscarriage at the six-week mark.

The reality personality revealed that she had a “blighted ovum,” which is what the Mayo Cliniccalls an “older term” for a situation in which an embryo does not develop or stops developing in the very early stages of a pregnancy; there is often no apparent cause or underlying issue. “You always think, What’s wrong? What did I do wrong? Could I have done something different?” recalled Doute. “And my doctor and my friends have told me, inside and out, up and down, there’s no cause. They don’t know why.”

Still, Kristen Doute can see the positives in the situation. The fact that she conceived “so quickly” gives her hope that she can get pregnant again. (She is trying for a baby with her boyfriend, Luke Broderick, whom she has been with since 2022.) “The only silver lining, the fact that we’ve now been digesting this for the last four or five days, is that I know once Luke and I are past this, we can try again…. We were so so lucky, because it could have gone a different way for me at my age [40]. I haven’t gone through IVF, I haven’t frozen my eggs, I haven’t done anything. I just think there’s something in God’s plan.”

“We’re very hopeful to have a very healthy pregnancy the next time around,” said Doute.

Per the Mayo Clinic, between 10% and 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage during the first trimester, and many women go on to welcome happy, healthy “rainbow babies” later on.
