Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have become one of those Hollywood pairs who are often referred to as #couplesgoals thanks to their seemingly hilarious, carefree relationship. But they talk about their hardships too. In the past Bell has discussed their intense fights and revealed they've gone to therapy, which has only made them more relatable. Now she's opening up about another tough time they've been working through lately.

During a September 25 episode of his popular podcast, Armchair Expert, Shepard revealed he started using pain pills again after being sober for 16 years. As a result, he restarted his sobriety clock. Bell has been by his side through it all and intends to stay that way.

“He is actually doing really great…. Everybody is up against their own demons,” Bell told Ellen DeGeneres, per People. “Sometimes it's anxiety and depression. Sometimes it's substance abuse.

“The thing I love most about Dax is,” she continued, “that he was able to tell me and tell us and say, ‘We need a different plan.’ We have a plan: If he has to take medication for any reason, I have to administer it. But he was like, ‘We need a stronger plan.’” Bell remembered Shepard saying to her, “I was faltering, I have to do some sort of emotional work to figure out why I wanted to use again.”

Bell went on to say she and Shepard are going back to therapy and figuring out a new “plan” should he ever require prescribed painkillers again (as he did after previous surgeries). “I will continue to stand by him because he's very, very worth it,” she said

While this has surely been a tough time for the family (the couple have two daughters), it sounds like everything is moving in the right direction. “He's addicted to evolving,” Bell said. “He was like, ‘I don't want to risk this family and I did, so let's put new things in place to make sure it doesn't happen again.’”
