At this point, we aren’t quite sure how Krispy Kreme is making money on their delicious, often-hot, famous doughnuts because they keep giving them away. Earlier this month, the bakery was super thoughtful and gave away a dozen free doughnuts for World Kindness Day.

Last month, the chain gave free doughnuts for Halloween, and in September, it offered a free doughnut when you tried Krispy Kreme’s new coffee.

Now, at the same time that Krispy Kreme is helping the family-favorite holiday film “Elf” celebrate its 20th anniversary with doughnuts inspired by the movie, it’s also getting ready for its annual “Day of the Dozens.”

Krispy Kreme’s Day of the Dozens

The name may evoke images of a horror film, but Krispy Kreme’s Day of the Dozens is anything but horrific. It’s a marvelous day during the most wonderful time of the year.

On Dec. 12, Krispy Kreme customers who purchase any dozen doughnuts (they could be the Elf-themed doughnuts, but they don’t have to be) at their regular price can also purchase an Original Glazed dozen for just $1. The offer is good for guests who order in the bakery, through the drive-thru, or online for pick-up or delivery.

Those who order in person can get a better deal than those who order online, though. Krispy Kreme has placed a limit of two offers (meaning they can redeem the offer twice) for those who order in the shop or through the drive-thru. Online customers can only redeem the offer once.

We know 24 doughnuts (or 48!) can be a lot, but you can freeze any extra doughnuts with pretty good results if you find you can’t get through them all. Or, if you find any of those Original Glazed have gotten a little stale, simply make doughnut bread pudding.
