Do you know there will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8? You probably do because it’s hard to get away from the excitement over this awe-inspiring celestial phenomenon, which happens so infrequently. The next one won’t happen until 2044.

Not everyone will experience totality, the term used for regions where the moon will completely cover the sun, but throughout the U.S., every state will experience some degree of the moon passing over the sun. What everyone in the U.S. can experience, though, is Krispy Kreme’s all-new doughnut.

The doughnut shop teased the new treat on its Instagram yesterday with a photo of space, the date 4.5.24, and a caption that read, “We’re detecting something sweet on our radar!” Since yesterday was April 1, there was some concern it might be an April Fools' joke. But we’re here to tell you it was definitely not.

Krispy Kreme is releasing an eclipse-themed doughnut, and we have the details.

Krispy Kreme’s Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut

In 2017, Krispy Kreme released a doughnut in honor of that year’s total solar eclipse—Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts. That variety has appeared again from time to time, but this year, Krispy Kreme is baking up an all-new doughnut for the eclipse, and if you ask us, it’s much more exciting than the previous simple glazed one.

The bakery is teaming up with Oreo for the Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut, an Original Glazed Doughnut dipped in black chocolate icing, adorned with silver sprinkles, piped with buttercream made with Oreo pieces, and a whole Oreo cookie in the center.

We’ll give you a second to read that description again. It’s a lot. And by a lot, we mean a lot of tasty goodness.

You can buy just a single Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut or a Total Solar Eclipse Specialty Dozen, six of the eclipse-themed doughnuts, and six Original Glazed doughnuts. The specialty doughnuts will be available at participating Krispy Kreme locations from April 5-8 while supplies last.

And lest you think Krispy Kreme is simply jumping on the eclipse bandwagon to sell some doughnuts, the brand has a history with things interstellar dating back to 1969 when it served fresh Original Glazed doughnuts at the viewing site of NASA’s Apollo 11 Mission to the Moon.
