Krispy Kreme Leap Day Deal: Here's How to Get a Dozen Doughnuts for $2.29

The chain is also offering free treats to Leap Day babies.

Leap Day, which happens every four years when February picks up a 29th day, has its own set of superstitions and traditions. During some eras, February 29th was a day when women could turn the tables and propose to their significant others — and Queen Margaret of Scotland supposedly ruled that anyone who said “Nah” to a wedding offer had to pay a £1 fine (or give the proposer a silk gown). In Greece, getting married on leap day is said to guarantee a divorce, and London’s Savoy Hotel once had its own signature Leap Day cocktail.

Here in the U.S., Krispy Kreme will commemorate Leap Day by offering doughnut lovers a dozen of its Original Glazed doughnuts for $2.29 with the purchase of another dozen at the regular price. Plus, any so-called “leapling” who has a February 29 birthday can also stop into their local Krispy Kreme to pick up a free dozen of Original Glazed doughnuts — and yes, you’ll have to show your driver’s license or other proof of your birth date.

“An extra day in the year is an irresistible opportunity for Krispy Kreme to be extra-sweet to our guests,” Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a statement. “So, we’re sweetening Leap Day by the dozens, including for fans whose true birthday comes around only every four years.”

We’ll have to wait until 2028 to find out whether the Charlotte, North Carolina-based chain will turn this $2.29-per-dozen thing into a Leap Day tradition. It didn’t offer that deal in 2020; instead, Krispy Kreme said it would deliver five dozen doughnuts to the parents of any baby that was born on February 29 (assuming that the hospital was within 10 miles of a Krispy Kreme location).

But that's not all the chain's got up its sleeve. Last week, Krispy Kreme also launched its new “Chocomania” collection, which answers the question, “What if our doughnuts became a Hershey’s chocolate delivery system?”

There are four Chocomania doughnuts: the Hershey’s Galaxy Brownie doughnut which is filled with dark fudge creme, dipped in chocolate icing and topped with brownie bits; the Hershey’s Black and White Chocolate Chip Dream, topped with white icing, chocolate icing, and mini chocolate chips; the Hershey’s Chocolate Cake Overload, which takes a fudge cake-style doughnut, dips it in Hershey’s chocolate icing, and adds a dollop of dark chocolate fudge buttercream; and the Hershey’s Chocolate Iced, an Original Glazed doughnut that is both iced and drizzled with Hershey’s milk chocolate. (If you’re a Chocomania beginner, you might want to start there and work your way up to the Hershey’s Galaxy Brownie doughnut).

The Chocomania Collection is available for a limited time, and can either be picked up in-store at Krispy Kreme locations throughout the United States or ordered for delivery through the Krispy Kreme app and website. Six-packs of the Chocomania doughnuts are also available at select locations of Food Lion, Kroger, Publix, Stater Brothers, Wakefern, Walmart, and other grocery stores. If you’re planning to make a Leap Day proposal, sweetening the deal with a box of Chocomania doughnuts certainly can’t hurt.
