Krispy Kreme Is Launching Mini Versions of Their Best Doughnuts

For anyone with a New Year’s resolution, the Monday of the first full week in January is usually a time when the reality of the daunting task that lies ahead sets in. Many (foolish) people have presumably made it a goal to eat healthier in the New Year, which would likely involve eating fewer—or, god forbid, no—Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

But what there existed an ingenious loophole that could satisfy your sweet tooth without packing on as many of the calories and subsequent guilt? That’s exactly the idea behind Krispy Kreme’s introduction of new mini doughnuts this week, the classic guilty pleasure shrunken down to a less guilty size.

The timing of their January launch was no coincidence, as Krispy Kreme CMO Dave Skena says that the mini doughnuts (each of which weighs in at under 100 calories) can hopefully offer a big boost for those trying to adjust their eating habits in 2020. “Too many people bail on their New Year’s resolutions before they are even halfway through January,” he said in a press release. “Sometimes a mini-indulgence, or cheat, is all you need to help you stick with it. So, we minituarized our most popular doughnuts.”

In terms of tastes, Krispy Kreme is opting to miniaturize its four most popular flavors rather than reinvent the wheel. That means you’ll find Chocolate Iced Glazed, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, Strawberry Iced with Sprinkles, and—of course— the Original Glazed flavor that put Krispy Kreme on the map.

If you’re not already motivated to get off the couch and track down a Krispy Kreme doughnut, maybe their “Mini Mondays” doughnut happy hour will do the trick. From 4 to 7 p.m. every Monday in January, resolute snackers or curious can get their hands on one of these mini wonders for the low price of $0.00 at participating shops.

So if you’re already wavering in your commitment to making change in the New Year, let Krispy Kreme’s mini doughnuts serve as proof that you don’t have to eschew culinary pleasure entirely. Quite literally, dieters can have a little doughnut, as a treat.
